Club Match at Bushy 27th December 2006

This match is held annually as a get together with the spirit of Christmas in mind. Turnout was good, albeit with a few guests again. It was Malcolm Golding's second Christmas trip for six years, last year being the first - nice to have his support. We were surprised at the total number of anglers around the lake, over 50. It was nice to see Danny Peet turn up after a three and a half hours drive from Sheffield. Last year he accidentally tried on the wrong day (boxing day) but this year he got it right!!!

The day was very mild, perhaps a bit chilly for an hour or so, with very little breeze.

Although fish were scattered all around the lake the better results were once again to be had on the northern half of the lake (to the right of the pier, near and far banks). As usual most Iver anglers headed for this better area and from the word go fish were coming out all around this northern end. In fact it was surprising how many fish were coming out this early on because, once again, unless you caught your fish early it became more difficult. Ray had tried the southern end and although he caught a fish there he decided to try the northern half. By 11.00am he had three in the bag but he had missed the early rush and then struggled for many hours to catch his last as it got harder.

Lunchtime arrived and it was time for the cooking to commence, hot dogs, burgers and coffee etc that went down well. Fortunately most Iver fishermen had finished by then so could enjoy the celebrations and chit-chat. All in all it was a good day with high spirits of the Christmas period.

Congratulations to a rarely seen Iver fisherman, Stan’s son Bob King, who won the day.

What a fish!!!

Congratulations to Ken Williams on such a magnificent fish. While having a short break in January at Blackwell Farm (near Guildford) with Stan King and Dave Blanchard and using a Cats Whisker fly he managed to catch this monster that tipped the scales at 16lbs 7ozs. His luck was in. Look at the tail!!

IVER FlyFishers DVD

A DVD has been made of Iver FF personnel photos together with a few fishing movies – includes the AMFC award to Iver who came first in Group 2 in 2005.

The DVD (over 45 minutes long) is available from the secretary or treasurer.

Note that photos that appear on the WEB, eg in Newsletters, are of lower quality (not everybody has Broadband). If anyone requires a photo of higher quality please contact the Newsletter Editor.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 12th December 2006 IVERFLYFISHERS

Horsemoor Centre, Langley

MEETING OPENED: 8.15pm

APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE: None

MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Approved by E Gray & Ray Simpson

REPORTS:

CHAIRMAN: Stan thought it nice to see some old faces again, especially Brian Witty and Colin Winterbourne. Nothing to report.

SECRETARY: Roy read through last years minutes and commented on the way that the new meeting arrangements of every other week has been causing some confusement for some members. It would be nice to go back to a weekly meeting, but more about this in the treasurer’s report.

It was a good season for the Iver AMFC team, holding our own in the top group by finishing in 4th position means of course that we will stay in group 1 next season.

TREASURER: Ken explained that although not confirmed, he believed that the hire of the hall was to be greatly increased in the New Year from £20.03 per night, to £22.50 per hour and £8.65 per hour just to use the small room. Clearly, we cannot afford this massive price hike, and a long discussion took place about alternative meeting places among those present, and it was decided to wait until confirmation was given before taking any action. An extraordinary AGM would be called before making a final decision.

Adoption of balance sheet for 2005/2006; Approved by Ray Simpson & E Gray

Election of officers: Stan thanked the serving committee, and all were re-elected en block.

A.O.B. Tim Youngs wished to say farewell to everyone, as he intends to live/work in Mauritius for two years. We wish him well, and are sure he will be successful.

Allen Dixon mentioned that he was having problems with "Trojans" on the web site; Stan said that he only expected trouble from the Indians, but Ken to seek info on the Provider, as he was not too keen on Viruses either.

Xmas bash to be arranged for Jan.27th if possible.

Meeting closed at 8.59pm
