Association of Major Flyfishing Clubs (AMFC) Competitions

The AMFC consists of approx 15 teams of 6 persons divided into 3 groups.

Any club can join but because it is a collection of MAJOR clubs then it is expected that entrants have a suitable quality/quantity of fishermen.

There are 6 matches per group each year at suitable venues mainly throughout Southern England ranging from Chew (near Bristol), to Grafham and Bewl. ALL teams from all 3 groups fish the first and last of the 6 matches but, because of limited boat capacity, then there are only 4 persons per team in these two rounds.

Iver selected their team members at the start of the year being :-

Ken Williams, Roy Palmer, Jeff Hickson, John Weaver, Eddie Gray, Ray Simpson, Peter Goadley, Ron Lusardi, Danny Peet (from Sheffield), Clive Collier & Simon Newman.

Ron was selected as team co-ordinator (his arm was twisted!!) for Iver.

Eddie is on the AMFC committee, independently of Iver.

The matches are point based being 5 points for the first team down to 1 point for the last.

For limiting early there is a ‘time limit’ bonus of x pounds weight per hour.

So, how have Iver in group 2 done so far? In a word, EXCELLENT. See below.

Round 1 was a 5 star performance by Iver at Bewl in April. Eddie limited, the only limit of the day, and with a time bonus for good measure. The team came first OF ALL AMFC TEAMS and so got the maximum of 5 points. A good start to carry forward.

Round 3 was still yet another success in that Iver were second at Chew in June. Another 4 points gained.

However, all eyes are on Bristol who was first in both Rounds 2 & 3 and are close behind Iver.

It had been expected for Bristol to win at Chew, their ‘home’ ground, so all eyes are now on the next match on July 10th at Eyebrook.

To date the individual results of Round 3 have not yet been published so watch this space in the next newsletter. However, fishing at Chew was HARD in round 3.
