Boat match at Eyebrook, Saturday July 12th

A day that some would wish to forget but others to glorify.
The weather
The weather for July was very chilly with a moderate wind from the west, sometimes very gusty. However, when the wind did moderate it was quite pleasant.
The fishing
There were fish showing all day although perhaps the morning was best.
Some (4 or 5 boat) went straight for the dam but after an hour or so they moved off.
Most boats were in the bowl but some went right up to the far end. This proved a bonus for them as there were plenty of fish up there. Those who stayed in the ‘bowl’ now wish that they had ventured up that far.
In the bowl it was hard, the odd take or two but little staying on. However, there is always somebody who is in the right place at the right time with the right technique. And that was Mick and Steve. The Gods were with them as they drifted across the reservoir with their floating lines and nymphs.
Meanwhile Danny and Eddie who had gone to the far end were using dry flies. The Gods were with them too. Dry flies paid off for both of them. Danny caught his 8 fish no problem and Eddie had a great day with 7.
Ralph had one stroke of luck. In the gusty wind his top dropper caught in Allen’s line adjacent to the boat. Whilst holding the leader to unhook it, with the tip fly in the water, a fish took the tip fly, pulling on the leader that was in his hand. With a bit of luck and two joined lines he still managed to land it.
The weigh-in.
A few gloomy faces and a few smiling ones!
It was a close run match with Danny and Eddie clipping Mick and Steve at the weigh-in.
Commiserations to those who were less fortunate.
